We Offer Frenectomy to Solve Newborn Tongue and Lip Ties
The birth of a new child comes with many challenges, and breastfeeding can be one of them. For example, with some infants, the thin length of tissue connecting their upper lip to their gums may interfere. This structure, called a frenum, can be adjusted with a simple surgical procedure called a frenotomy.
Our associate dentist is one of the few in the area that performs this therapy, and in most cases, your infant will return to feeding immediately. In addition, by releasing the frenum, your child can open their mouth wider and attach more readily.
Additional issues with your child's frenum may emerge if you don't have it checked. Sometimes, this length of tissue may grow between your child's front teeth, causing a gap called a diastema. You should seek treatment as this may impact the spacing of their permanent teeth, speech development, and dietary choices.
